Most historians believe that baby buggies were introduced in Germany in the late 1500's. It is unclear where they first came from, though both the Spanish and Swedes take credit for their invention. It is thought that the German who first popularized them was named Herman Frederick Von Bughiymeister. Today, baby buggies can be found throughout Germany. They can be purchased in a huge assortment of colors, including black, orange, green, scarlet, brown, violet, purple, yellow, pink, and red. The four wheel baby buggy model seems to be the most popular, but there are also two wheeled versions, plus versions with built in bottle holders and sun shades. Recent surveys have estimated that up to 35% of Germans have baby buggies or have a relative with a buggy. Baby buggies are used throughout the year, but are more popular in the summer due to the weather. There do not seem to be any regional preferences between time of year usage or color. The primary builder of baby buggies in Germany is the Platypus Baby Buggy Werks (PBBW) company located 30 miles north of Berlin. The PBBW employs about 1,400 workers and produces over 50% of the baby buggies sold in Germany. ~ source: whywouldyoubelievethis[dot]com/madeup-stuff-about-german-baby-buggies
